Women's College Announces New Programs

by Jennifer Lowry

The Women’s College of the University of Denver, the only all-women’s higher education program in the region, will offer two new certificates programs and a new minor beginning in the fall 2008 quarter.

Students can now take advantage of a new minor or certificate in Leadership Studies and a new certificate in Conflict Management.

Certificate programs allow students to explore new possibilities, transition to another discipline, or enhance current skills. Students may earn a certificate only, or may transfer certificate credits into a bachelor’s degree program.

“The Women’s College strives to offer a well-rounded and quality education for our students,” said Lynn Gangone, dean of The Women’s College . “The new minor and the two new certificates are valuable additions to our already great education options.”

Leadership Studies
The Leadership Studies minor and certificate programs explore the concepts of self, voice, and action for women from diverse cultures, identities, and backgrounds.

Coursework will delve into leadership theory, multicultural and global perspectives in leadership, self-development and interpersonal exploration, and the practical application of leadership concepts to all sectors of life and work.

The Leadership Studies minor requires 24 credit hours of coursework and the certificate requires 20 credit hours of course work.

Conflict Management
The increasing complexity and diversity of the world in which we live calls for a conscious awareness of potential conflict and the ability to manage conflict, if not resolve it.

The goal of the Conflict Management Studies Certificate is to offer an understanding and appreciation of conflict management skills at a variety of levels—interpersonal, group, organizational, national and international.

The Conflict Management Studies Certificate requires 20 credit hours of coursework consisting of four classes.
